Secret Art Club with Stacy Speyer

The Secret Art Club is on Wednesday, July 15th from 6-9 (shhh!)

The first one will be on July 15th, and we will use stamps to block print geometric tessellating patterns onto fabric with artist Stacy Speyer. All materials are provided, and we will have blank fabric and tea towels to print onto (but feel free to bring a blank cotton tee shirt if you want to make some wearable art!)

About the artist

Stacy Speyer is an artist who likes exploring different techniques, making beautiful objects, studying, and helping others do all that and more!  Stacy has taught multi-level weaving classes for over 20 years, knows about a wide variety of textiles and other art mediums.  Her own artwork went from weaving and dyeing sewing thread into large scale installations to creating geometric forms using hands on processes (with basketry materials, beads, yarn, paper) and digital tools (Illustrator and laser cutting metal, wood, acrylic, cardstock).

Stacy has a series of 3D coloring books, known as “Cubes and Things”,  that make it easy to color and construct your own geometric shapes, known as polyhedra.  She also has a book called “Polyhedra: Eye Candy to Feed the Mind” that is filled with photos of these fascinating shapes and an Introduction to Polyhedra chapter that makes it easy to learn about the geometric connections between the shapes.

For 10 years Stacy has been doing workshops that bring the fun and accessible parts of math to kids and adults.  She has a range of papercraft projects (including Polyhedra Parties that use pages from her Cubes and Things books) to hands on puzzles and games.  Whether she is tutoring one person, doing a workshop for kids or adults, or leading a math festival for over 100 people, the activity will involve playing and learning.
